Our History

Rev. & Mrs. Lawrence Leroux led the first service of Moberly United Pentecostal Church at 531 E. Logan St. on October 23, 1964. After serving the congregation for five years, they were followed by Rev. & Mrs. Francis Lindsey and Rev. & Mrs. Jerry Hill. Under the Hills, the church relocated, first to Renick, and then to Grand Avenue in Moberly.

In 1976, Rev. Leroux returned to Moberly and established Apostolic Pentecostal Church (APC). Land was purchased and a new church building was erected on Six Mile Lane during his nine years of service. The church on Grand Avenue was still in existence in 1985 when Rev. Dorothy Snider was elected pastor of APC. Under Rev. Snider’s leadership, the two churches merged to the Six Mile Lane location.

Rev. & Mrs. Vernon McGarvey were elected pastor in January 1988 and served for 23 years. APC expanded during his tenure, purchasing an additional 10 acres of land surrounding the church and nearly doubling the size of the existing building with upgraded facilities, classrooms and fellowship hall. Pastor McGarvey passed away on September 25, 2011, and Rev. & Mrs. Dustyn Tallman were elected as Pastor on October 24, 2011. In 2013, APC purchased the residential property next to the church originally built by Rev. Leroux. The building, known as the "Annex," now provides additional classrooms, offices, and a guest minister suite. 

On October 7, 2017, APC launched a new work in Macon, MO with a community worship event at the County Park grandstand. In August 2018, services moved into the heart of downtown at 119 N. Rollins. The second campus location served Macon county and the surrounding communities until August 2020.

In 2018, in conjunction with an extensive remodel of the entire existing building, the congregation became known simply as The Pentecostal Church.

Dustyn Tallman

Pastor

Pastor Dustyn and Sis. Jessi share the excitement of our growing assembly and work together to focus the heart of our great church. 

Pastor Dustyn grew up at TPC, beginning in Sunday School and youth group, then progressing from a Sunday school teacher and musician to Assistant Pastor. When the church elected him Pastor in 2011, it was the culmination of a lifetime of dedication to the Kingdom of God. As a former residential building contractor, Pastor Dustyn understands the day-to-day realities of the Moberly community. He stays engaged to make our community a better place to live and work, including serving as Secretary of the Randolph County Ministerial Alliance. Pastor Dustyn is an Ordained minister with the United Pentecostal Church, Int'l. 

Sis. Jessi's experience as Sunday school teacher guides her passion as our Education Coordinator. With her background as a paralegal, as well as in higher education, she brings a practiced eye to the detail and design of TPC's day-to-day operations.

Pastor Dustyn and Sis. Jessi, have three children: Penelope, Noah, & Amelia. 

Scott McGarvey

Assistant PASTOR

While Moberly is home to Scott & Suzi McGarvey, they have spent decades in ministry, both domestically and abroad. As Associates in Missions with the United Pentecostal Church, Int'l, Scott & Suzi have pastored multicultural ministries in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Together, they bring extensive corporate & educational industry leadership experience to TPC.  Scott is licensed as a Local minister with the United Pentecostal Church, Int'l.

Their son, Cooper, rounds out the Pack of Three.
